Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions people ask most. The documentation pages tell the full story.
Basics
What is Eurcor?
Eurcor is a public registry of verified corporate ownership structures — it maps the chain of ownership and control from a registered entity down to its natural-person beneficial owners (skutečný majitel), published as open, machine-readable OFN records.
Is Eurcor free to use?
Yes — searching the public registry is open to everyone, with no account needed.
How do I look up a company or a person?
Go to Search, type a company or person's name, and open a result to see its ownership and control structure.
What does "beneficial owner" mean?
The beneficial owner (skutečný majitel) is the real natural person who ultimately owns or controls a company, even through a chain of other companies.
What languages is this documentation in?
English today, with Czech planned — every page will ship as an EN + CS twin, and Czech legal terms are kept in Czech so their meaning is preserved.
Access & privacy
Can I see someone's home address or exact date of birth?
No. The public view is designed to show only name, birth month and year, country or citizenship, and the nature and extent of control — never a full address, exact date of birth, or detailed control mechanisms.
What counts as a legitimate interest?
Journalism, civil-society and academic research, and obliged-entity due diligence qualify for the permitted tier; you'll attest your basis, and that access will be logged.
Do companies get notified when authorities look them up?
No. Competent authorities, financial-intelligence units, and law enforcement query under full access without notice to the company.
Why isn't the whole registry simply public?
The Court of Justice of the EU (C-601/20, Sovim) struck down unconditional general-public access to beneficial-owner registers, so access is tiered and, above the public minimum, conditioned on a demonstrated legitimate interest.
Trust & verification
Is the data verified, or just self-reported?
Every record is a submission backed by proof documents and reviewed by a verifier before it is published; rating on three credibility dimensions — scope, documentary, and temporal — is planned.
Where does the data come from?
Companies and authorised submitters lodge documented ownership structures; each one is verified before it appears publicly.
Does verification prove the ownership is legally correct?
No. Verification records who reviewed the submission and the outcome, with reasons on rejection; it is informational, not a legal determination of beneficial ownership.
How do I know a record hasn't been tampered with — are submissions signed?
Not yet. Today a record's integrity rests on credentialed access and verifier review; cryptographic signing with public proofs anyone can verify is planned.
What does "credibility" actually mean?
Three independent signals: scope (rozsahová — how much is verified), documentary (dokladová — what proof backs it), and temporal (časová — how current it is); recording them per subject and relationship at verification is planned.
Submitting
How do I submit an ownership structure?
You package the subject, its ownership structure, and proof documents into a submission and lodge it for verification; you first need credentials from the Request access page. The CLI and packaging library that automate this are planned.
What happens after I submit — and if I'm rejected?
A submission is lodged for verification and either accepted or rejected. A rejection returns with the reasons so you can amend and resubmit; accepted structures then appear in Search.
What proof documents does a submission need?
Whatever supports each claimed relationship — articles of association, board minutes or resolutions, share certificates or a cap table, trust deeds, and identity documents.
Working with the data
Is there an API I can query?
Not yet — the query/resolution API is planned. Search is live today, and you can already request access to be ready when it ships.
Can institutions rely on Eurcor records for due diligence?
Records are source-backed and reviewed before publication, so treat them as a verifiable input to your checks — not a substitute for your own anti-money-laundering obligations.
How deep does the ownership chain go, and how are indirect owners resolved?
Down to the natural-person beneficial owners, resolved through direct (přímé) and indirect (nepřímé) chains and joint holdings; the exact rule for multiplying shares across indirect layers is still being finalised.
Why is the threshold 25%?
25% is the beneficial-owner / significant-holder threshold set by the AMLR (Art. 52(1)); OFN records holders at or above it as significant, alongside control exercised by other means.
Can I reconstruct ownership as of a past date?
This is planned via an as-of query over each relationship's validity interval; today, current results should be read as "as of now."
